You prefer overcooked foods

In some cases, it is recommended to overcook your food, especially if you suffer from various gastrointestinal diseases, but when it comes to meat you should cook it properly without forming harmful compounds, such as acrylamide, that could adversely affect your health. Instead, you can opt for stew, roast or slow cooked meat.

According to Lisa Richards, nutritionist and creator of TheCandidaDiet.com, “overcooking your meat can form compounds that increase oxidative stress and inflammation, and may even increase the risk of certain cancers. The most common culprit is grilling at high temperatures.”

Moreover, some studies have shown that overcooking foods can lead to cancer in the long run. Acrylamide is a chemical compound that can be found in foods that are cooked at high temperatures. Hence, this chemical causes cancer in humans.

So instead, you should try to stick to a balanced diet, if you want to minimize the risk of cancer. “We are not saying people should worry about the occasional meal… this is about managing risk over a lifetime. Anything you can do to reduce your exposure will reduce your lifetime risk,” said Steve Wearne, FSA director of policy.
