Autism
Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), describes a group of neurodevelopmental disorders. People who suffer from autism can have problems with communication and social interaction. The symptoms of autism can be observed in early childhood, between 12 and 24 months of age.
For example, they can have issues with communications, difficulties sharing emotions, incapability of interpreting body language, repetitive actions and speech patterns. Symptoms of autism can vary from person to person and its causes are unknown.
However, in movies, people with autism are portrayed as emotionally unstable and without empathy, becoming serial killers or having supernatural powers, such as exaggerated intelligence. In reality, they are normal individuals that should be treated with respect just like any other person.
