Wendy Williams

  • Disease: Graves’ disease

Wendy Williams is an American broadcaster, businesswoman, media personality and writer who has hosted The Wendy Williams Show since 2008. About six years ago, when she was 50 years old, the council of Asbury Park, New Jersey named the street on which she grew up ‘Wendy Williams Way’.

She always spoke openly about her health state and admitted that she was addicted to cocaine in her past. Williams also said that she suffers from Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism, and unfortunately, she had to be hospitalized several times due to complications. In 2019, she had been diagnosed with lymphedema, as well.

About this disease: Graves’ disease is caused by a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition, impaired immune system, age, hormones and stress. The abnormalities of the immune system that appear in Graves’ disease cause the overproduction of thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). Even though this disease is more common in women under the age of 40, it doesn’t mean that it can’t affect anyone else regardless of their gender or age. The most common symptoms are anxiety, fatigue, enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter), sleep disturbance, frequent bowel movements and so on.
