Selena Gomez is an American singer, actress and producer who gained more fame after starring in the Emmy Award–winning Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012). She is considered one of the most influential and beautiful singers in the world. According to Billboard, as of 2017, she has sold over 7 million albums and 22 million singles worldwide. She’s also very followed on social media and has a makeup, clothing, handbag and fragrance line.

However, in 2015, our beautiful singer revealed that she suffers from Lupus. Unfortunately, this disease affected her kidneys and she underwent a kidney transplant in 2017.

“Maybe I wasn’t necessarily really good at knowing what that meant so it actually got to a point where it was life-or-death. Thankfully, one of my best friends gave me her kidney and it was the ultimate gift of life. And I am doing quite well now,” Gomez said during an interview.

About this disease: Lupus is an autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. This chronic disease can affect your skin, kidneys, joints, brain, heart and lungs. Some people are prone to this disease from birth, but it may be triggered by certain factors, such as infections, certain drugs or even sunlight. Lupus can be difficult to diagnose, but the most common sign is a facial rash that looks like the wings of a butterfly.
