“Maybe I wasn’t necessarily really good at knowing what that meant so it actually got to a point where it was life-or-death. Thankfully, one of my best friends gave me her kidney and it was the ultimate gift of life. And I am doing quite well now,” Gomez said during an interview.
About this disease: Lupus is an autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. This chronic disease can affect your skin, kidneys, joints, brain, heart and lungs. Some people are prone to this disease from birth, but it may be triggered by certain factors, such as infections, certain drugs or even sunlight. Lupus can be difficult to diagnose, but the most common sign is a facial rash that looks like the wings of a butterfly.
