Anxiety and stress during coronavirus quarantine
There are two categories of stressed people: those who have pre-existing anxiety disorders and those who develop this illness during the coronavirus quarantine because they are afraid of getting sick or worried about their family. So, regardless of the category you belong to, it is important to find out the source of stress and gradually eliminate it.
“We know that a significant percentage of the population has a pre-existing mood or anxiety disorders and are more likely to have difficulty coping with extreme stress,” says Victor M. Fornari, MD, vice-chair of child & adolescent psychiatry at the Zucker Hillside Hospital in New York.
During the coronavirus outbreak, you may feel lonely and sad or you might develop insomnia, poor eating habits, drinking large quantities of alcohol, smoke a lot of cigarettes or other bad habits that can affect your overall health. “It is important for family members, friends, and coworkers to recognize these signs in high- risk groups,” explains Brittany LeMonda, Ph.D., a senior neuropsychologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.
