Martin van Buren, the eighth president of the United States – from 1837 to 1841
Martin van Buren was the eighth president of America and the first one whose mother tongue was not English but Dutch, becoming the first president, not of British descent.
In the past, because of the Constitution, people who wanted to run for president must be born in the United States and to be resident for at least 14 years. According to the principles of the Constitution, the candidates should have been at least 35 years old.
But what you probably do not know is that Martin van Buren was born in the Dutch region of Kinderhook, which is in New York and he was actually born and raised as a U.S. citizen and things changed when the United States became a sovereign nation.
