Stop smoking
According to health experts, smokers and people who suffer from different respiratory diseases are more prone to severe symptoms due to coronavirus. Even vaping can make you more vulnerable to the new coronavirus. “Anything that is challenging to your lungs is going to work in the wrong direction,” says Dr. Diamond.
It is a known fact that coronavirus can cause chronic lung conditions with severe symptoms especially among people who vape and smoke.
“All these things make me believe that we are going to have more severe cases – especially [in] people who are [long-term] smokers or vapers. But it is definitely common sense to think that once you have a history of smoking or vaping, the whole airways, the defense mechanism of your lungs – everything changes,” says Melodi Pirzada, chief of pediatric pulmonology at NYU Winthrop Hospital on Long Island.
