Levi’s jeans
Once based in San Francisco, Levi’s became one of America’s most iconic clothing brands in the ‘60s and a staple of many baby boomers’ wardrobes. But with falling sales, the last decade has seen the company close all of its U.S. manufacturing plants. Levi Strauss & Co has opted to make its famously hard-wearing jeans in countries with cheaper labor costs, such as China. Levi’s chairman emeritus Robert Haas said at the time: “Certain kinds of work are not going to continue to be done in America.”
