  • Learning disabilities: ADHD and Dyslexia

Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, writer and producer, best known for his slapstick performances in various comedies. He rose to fame in 1990 by starring in the sketch comedy television series In Living Color (1990–1994). Carrey is the recipient of numerous accolades, including two Golden Globe Awards and five nominations, a Primetime Emmy Awards nomination, four BAFTA Awards nominations, and so on.

Carrey started attending Agincourt Collegiate Institute, in Agincourt, a neighborhood in Scarborough, before dropping out of school on his sixteenth birthday. However, our talented actor has always been honest about his learning disabilities and how they have affected his mental health. As a child, Carrey was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD, but he controlled the disorder through medication.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders affecting children. Although ADHD is usually first diagnosed in childhood, it still affects many adults as well.

Even though ADHD is not officially included in the list of learning disabilities, it can disrupt learning, because people with this disorder can’t focus, are hyperactive and impulsive, can’t be organized and complete their homework.
