Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye was an American singer and songwriter who helped create the sound of Motown in 1960, earning the nicknames “Prince of Motown” and “Prince of Soul”. As a solo artist, he managed to become famous and influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo soul. But that’s not all, he was the recipient of numerous Grammy Awards and an American Music Award.
In 1978, he had some financial problems with the IRS, and as a consequence, his cocaine addiction intensified significantly. He moved to Maui, where he struggled to record an album called Love Man. He gave up this album and went on a European tour, but after this tour, he went to London where he feared that he would be imprisoned for failing to pay back taxes.
Unfortunately, in 1984, the day before he turned 45, his father shot him after an argument. This sad event happened at their house in West Adams, Los Angeles.
