Judy Garland
Judy Garland was an American actress, singer and dancer who starred in numerous musicals and dramas, including The Wizard of Oz (1939), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Harvey Girls (1946), Easter Parade (1948), to name a few. She was the recipient of numerous accolades, including an Academy Juvenile Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Special Tony Award, and a Grammy Award for Album of the Year, making her the first woman to win such an award.
In addition, her roles in A Star Is Born (1954) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, as well as a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Unfortunately, her life wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, as fame affected her physical and mental health, especially in adolescence. Her self image was also influenced by people who criticized her for being ‘unattractive’. She found peace in alcohol and drugs, so her financial problems started to show up. According to the media, Garland was several hundred thousand dollars in debt to the IRS, because she didn’t paid back her taxes. Unfortunately, she died from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 47.
